Every year, there are surprise cuts across the NFL. The Green Bay Packers have made a number themselves, including surprisingly moving on from All-Pro guard Josh Sitton in 2016 and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Mike Daniels in 2019.

Neither player had shown signs of decline and looked set for important starting roles at their respective positions in those seasons.

Not every roster cut is as surprising as when the Packers moved on from Sitton and Daniels. For example, just last year, wide receiver Jake Kumerow didn’t make the 53-man roster.

Let’s look at five potential surprise cuts for the Packers in 2021.

5. JK Scott

JK Scott has been frustratingly inconsistent during his time with the Packers. One moment he looks like the best punter in football as he flips field position and sets the defense up for success. The next, he misses badly, swinging the game in the other direction.

Scott has been unable to consistently put together good performances, so it’s no surprise that the Packers have brought in punter Ryan Winslow to compete with him this summer.

Scott should still be considered the frontrunner to win the job so it would be somewhat surprising if he doesn’t make the roster. But it has to be considered a possibility.
