3. Darnell Savage leads the NFL in interceptions

It’s hard to describe just how well Darnell Savage was playing in the second half of last season. He just got better and better as the games got more important. There’s no such as thing as carrying momentum from one season to another, but Savage is a talented young player who has continued to improve since entering the NFL.

Particularly impressive was Savage’s coverage. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed the third lowest passer rating in slot coverage last season.

In the final eight games, Savage broke up 10 passes and had four interceptions. And it was only a matter of time before the turnovers started to come. In his final two years at Maryland, Savage made seven interceptions.

It’s going to continue into the 2021 season. Savage, who is already great in coverage and at getting his hands on the football, will lead the league in interceptions. Not just the Packers, but the entire NFL.

We see so many talented young players take a big step in year three. You only have to look at Savage’s teammate, Jaire Alexander, to find a perfect example. Alexander was very good in years one and two, but became a superstar and an All-Pro in his third season.

The same will be true for Savage, and he’s going to lead the NFL in interceptions this year.
