Billy Turner has shown just how important he is to the Green Bay Packers‘ offense in recent years.

Turner has the versatility to play across the offensive line, and he’s been asked to switch positions at times when the Packers have been hit with injuries.

Turner spent the majority of his time at right tackle last year, replacing Bryan Bulaga, and he had a great season.

2020 review

After an up-and-down first season in Green Bay, the question was whether Turner was ready to take the right tackle job ahead of new signing Rick Wagner after the Packers lost Bulaga in free agency.

Turner proved to be the right choice, starting 14 games for the Packers last season. Most of that was spent at right tackle, where he had a strong year. According to ESPN, Turner had a pass block win rate percentage of 94 percent, tied for best in the league among tackles. It was also one percent higher than All-Pro David Bakhtiari.

Turner, Bakhtiari, and Wagner all made the top 10, which shows just how strong the Packers were at tackle last season.

Will he make the roster?

Yes. Whether he remains at right tackle or moves back inside to play guard, Turner’s versatility makes him so valuable to the Packers’ offense.

What to expect in 2021

For now, it seems more likely Turner will stay at tackle. The Packers have strong depth at guard. And if Bakhtiari is out of for any length of time in 2021 as he recovers from a torn ACL, starting with Turner at right tackle and Elgton Jenkins at left tackle could be the best way to go.

There’s also no reason to move Turner back to guard. He was excellent at right tackle last season so should be given every opportunity to stay there unless injuries hit and he’s needed back at guard.

With the ability to play multiple positions along the line, Turner is such an important player for the Packers.
