Lucas Patrick was needed to take on a starting job for the Green Bay Packers, and he delivered.

Patrick put together a great season as the Packers’ offensive line dominated throughout 2020.

Will Patrick be a starter again this season, and will he be playing at guard or move to center?

2020 review

For the first time in his career, Patrick was asked to be a full-time starter on the offensive line. He had been a quality backup for a few years in Green Bay but took the step up into a bigger role last season.

And Patrick responded with a great season. According to ESPN, his pass block win rate percentage was 94 percent, sixth best among guards in the NFL.

Patrick didn’t miss much time playing in every game and starting almost all of them, and he was a key part of the Packers’ dominant offensive line throughout the year.

Will he make the roster?

There’s a strong chance Patrick will make the roster, however, I did list him as one of five players who could be surprisingly cut before the start of the season. It would still come as a surprise if it actually happened and wouldn’t be based on talent, but rather the salary-cap savings the Packers could make, and afford to given their strong depth at the interior offensive line positions.

However, Patrick has a great chance of making the roster and starting at either right guard or center.

What to expect in 2021

Unless Patrick is outplayed at training camp, the right guard job is likely his again in 2021. However, if rookie Josh Myers isn’t ready to begin the season at center, perhaps Patrick could slide to that position with Jon Runyan Jr. taking over at right guard.

The Packers have great depth and lots of versatility along the offensive line, making it tough to determine the best starting five. Patrick is very much part of that conversation and will look to secure a starting job again this year.
