Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan had a great 2020 season and deserved to be a Pro Bowler.

New York Giants tight end Evan Engram did make the Pro Bowl. He had 68 more receiving yards than Tonyan, but only caught one touchdown. Tonyan, in contrast, had 11 touchdown receptions. He also achieved these numbers on less than half the targets Engram had.

Not to mention that Tonyan hasn’t dropped a pass since 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.

No matter how you look at it, Tonyan should’ve been a Pro Bowler ahead of Engram. He made a huge impact for the Packers’ offense and was a go-to target for Aaron Rodgers throughout the season.

The good news is that this is unlikely to change anytime soon, even if Rodgers isn’t at QB in 2021. Tonyan has become a great receiving tight end and will be a key target for the Packers’ QB, whether it’s Rodgers, Jordan Love, or Blake Bortles.

And the Pro Bowl dream is far from over for Tonyan.

NFL.com’s Marc Sessler picked one potential first-time Pro Bowler from every team in the NFC. For the Packers, Tonyan was his choice.

No arguments here. Not only has Tonyan proven he can play at a Pro Bowl level, but most of the Packers’ star players already have at least one Pro Bowl selection to their name.

Tonyan should again be the Packers’ number one receiving tight end this season.

Second-year Josiah Deguara returns from injury but he’ll likely have a different role to Tonyan. He’ll spend time at fullback and will be used often for his blocking. Jace Sternberger could get more opportunities this season, but he will miss the first two games due to suspension.

Tonyan deserved to be a Pro Bowler last season. Will he make the Pro Bowl this year?
