The key to sustained success in the NFL is a great partnership between the head coach and quarterback. The Green Bay Packers have exactly that with Matt LaFleur and Aaron Rodgers.

For years, the combination of Bill Belichick and Tom Brady dominated the league, winning six Super Bowls and making about three million AFC title games. Now, Brady has formed another great relationship with Bruce Arians with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leading them to the Super Bowl last season.

The Kansas City Chiefs have found immediate success with the combination of head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, making consecutive Super Bowls, winning one.

Packers have one of league’s top QB-HC duos

Ahead of the 2021 season, CBS Sports has ranked the best quarterback-coach duos in the league, with the Packers’ pairing of Rodgers and LaFleur coming third. The Chiefs’ duo of Mahomes and Reid is second, and the Bucs’ pairing of Brady and Arians is top.

No arguments here.

There isn’t much in it between the top three. Brady and Arians found instant success, winning a Super Bowl in their first year together. Mahomes was named NFL MVP in his first season as a starter, and their offense has been unstoppable ever since.

There were big questions about how LaFleur and Rodgers would get on after Mike McCarthy’s time in Green Bay came to an end, but it’s been a winning partnership so far.

Under LaFleur, the Packers have gone 26-6 in the regular season and made the NFC Championship Game twice. Rodgers had arguably his greatest ever season in 2020 with a career-high 48 touchdown passes while wrapping up his third MVP award. With Rodgers and LaFleur working together, Green Bay’s offense led the league in scoring.

Assuming Rodgers is back this season, they’ll be entering their third season together, and that’s something for Packers fans to be excited about.
