5 Packers players set to turn heads at 2021 training camp
3. Josiah Deguara
Second-year tight end Josiah Deguara has slipped under the radar this offseason, most likely due to the fact his rookie year was cut short due a torn ACL. But it was clear from his limited game action that Deguara will be featured heavily in Matt LaFleur’s offense.
LaFleur had high praise for Deguara last year and said that when you watch him play, “you see such a gritty, tough player”. LaFleur also spoke about Deguara’s versatility.
It’s possible Deguara will play a similar role to Kyle Juszczyk for the San Francisco 49ers. He can do a bit of everything whether asked to block or catch passes, no matter where he’s lined up on the field.
It’s tough to grade Deguara’s rookie season as he barely played due to injury, but we saw his ability to impact the game in the season-opening win over the Minnesota Vikings. He showed he can catch passes, and on another play he blocked two Vikings defenders at the same time.
Many have forgotten about Deguara after his season-ending injury, but it won’t be long until everyone is talking about him again. Assuming he’s back to full strength, Deguara will prove his versatility over the summer.
