After months of uncertainty, it looks like the Green Bay Packers will have MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the field in 2021.

It’s been no secret that Rodgers has been unhappy with the current situation in Green Bay. After holding out of OTAs and minicamp earlier this summer, there was doubt over whether Rodgers would be back for training camp.

Veteran players will report to Packers training camp on Tuesday. Until then we won’t know for sure, but there’s some good news.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, he’s been told that “Aaron Rodgers has indicated to people close to him that he does plan to play for GB this season”.

On the eve of training camp, that’s significant news.

It is, of course, great for the Packers as Rodgers is the defending league MVP and coming off arguably his best season. Had Rodgers been traded away, it would’ve been tough to watch one of the franchise’s all-time greats playing elsewhere. Perhaps even worse would’ve been if Rodgers simply had refused to play.

As ever with this situation, until Rodgers is on the practice field or publicly announces his plans to play, we should take everything with a grain of salt. One minute he’s rumored to be getting traded to the Denver Broncos, the next minute he’s planning to play in Green Bay.

But the fact the report is coming from Ian Rapoport is significant and a great sign that the Packers will indeed have their three-time MVP on the field this season.

Having Rodgers out there for at least one more season is great for the Packers as it gives them another shot at the Super Bowl, while backup Jordan Love gets another year to develop his game and learn from one of the best ever.

Tuesday is the key day as we’ll see whether Aaron Rodgers shows up to training camp.
