Equanimeous St. Brown

Similarly, Equanimeous St. Brown played no part in the preseason opener. For EQ, it’s not so much about his own performances over the summer, but rather the competition at wide receiver that makes it difficult for him.

We can safely assume the Packers’ five roster locks at receiver are Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, and Amari Rodgers. That may only leave one spot, and at best, two.

Juwann Winfree has been a standout performer over the summer and has made a strong case for a spot on the 53-man roster. Devin Funchess came up with an excellent performance in the preseason opener, catching six passes for 70 yards. Against mostly backups, he looked a class above, which is exactly what the Packers would’ve hoped to see.

If the Packers were to keep seven receivers, Winfree and Funchess might be the top choices currently. For EQ to have a shot, he’ll need to make an impact in the final two preseason games and also show he can be a key special-teams contributor. Without that, it’s hard to see how he makes the roster.

The good news for EQ is that he was back at practice on Monday after being sidelined with an injury. But time is running out.

St. Brown finished fourth in receiving among Packers WRs last season. Now he may not even make the roster.
