3 Packers that could be traded before the start of the 2021 season
Three Green Bay Packers players who could be traded before the start of the regular season in two weeks.
Only two weeks away from the start of the regular season, the Green Bay Packers will soon have to trim their roster down to 53 players.
Unfortunately, that means many talented players will have to depart and look for work elsewhere. It’s never an easy time of year for general managers, coaches, or players on roster bubbles. For many players, they will be cut before the start of the season. For others, they could be traded to a new team.
In the past couple of weeks, the Packers have traded away two cornerbacks: Josh Jackson and Ka’dar Hollman. Both players looked unlikely to make the Packers’ roster. Instead of cutting them, GM Brian Gutekunst was able to bring back something in return.
In the Jackson trade to the New York Giants, cornerback Isaac Yiadom came the other way. He now has an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in Green Bay. Both Jackson and Yiadom needed fresh starts with new teams.
Green Bay received a seventh-round pick from the Houston Texans in the Hollman trade. Houston strengthened its cornerback depth, while Green Bay got a draft pick in return for a player likely to be cut.
Could more trades be possible before the start of the season? Let’s look at three possibilities.
