Packers: 3 observations from Jordan Love’s preseason performance
Three observations from Jordan Love’s first preseason action with the Green Bay Packers.
After over a year of waiting to make his Green Bay Packers debut, Jordan Love played in two of the team’s three preseason games this summer.
Valuable in-game action for the first-round pick, Love will have learned a lot from his performances against the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills.
In two games, Love completed 24 of 35 passes for 271 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He was sacked twice.
What did we learn from Love’s first preseason action since being drafted by the Packers last year? Here are three observations.
1. Plenty of positives from Love’s preseason
It was always expected that Love would need a few years to develop his game. The key to that is seeing development, and Love has shown that. There were plenty of positives to take away from his performances over the past few weeks.
Particularly impressive was how comfortable Love looked facing a starting Buffalo Bills defense on Saturday, and without the majority of the Packers’ starters with him. He led a 12-play, 74-yard drive on the first possession, with the offense turning it over on downs on the Buffalo one-yard line. Love went 3/4 for 46 yards on the drive, while finding Reggie Begelton for a 29-yard gain.
When the offensive line protected Love well and he was able to play in rhythm, he was on the money more often than not.
He also made some “wow” plays along the way, including his beautiful 27-yard connection with Malik Taylor on Saturday. Love found Taylor on the sideline with a throw that would make Aaron Rodgers proud. Love has shown off his natural ability. It’s easy to see why he was a first-round pick.
For a second-year QB without much experience, playing in his first preseason games, there are plenty of positives to be taken.
