We got to see a complete performance from the Green Bay Packers in their season opener. Unfortunately, it was a completely poor one.

It was the most lopsided defeat in the Matt LaFleur era, the Packers lost 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints at a neutral venue.

If the Packers were in any way guilty of believing in their own hype, thinking they would outclass their opposition, this result should quickly change that.

A long way short of a championship level, the Packers have understandably plummeted in the Week 2 NFL Spin Zone power rankings. From entering the season fifth, they are now 13th, and that’s probably being kind.

Aaron Rodgers had a poor game. One of the worst we’ve seen from the three-time MVP.

To be fair, he wasn’t helped by a defense unable to get a stop in the first half, allowing consecutive 15-play touchdown drives early on. But when the offense did take the field, they didn’t help out the defense, instead quickly being forced to punt.

Even then, all was not lost at halftime with Green Bay only trailing 17-3 with the ball coming its way to begin the third quarter.

At long last, the Packers put together a promising drive and marched down to the red zone. But pressure in Rodgers’ face forced him into a hurried throw, well off-target for Davante Adams and intercepted. Elgton Jenkins prevented a rare Rodgers pick-six.

Once Rodgers threw another ugly interception on the very next possession, it was game over.

The Packers should burn the tape from this game and move on, but not before they take a long, hard look in the mirror and learn some important lessons from the way they went about that game.

With games against the San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers coming up, the Packers need to quickly bounce back in Week 2.
