Kevin King’s struggles continued on the Packers’ first defensive drive against the Lions.

Starting cornerback Kevin King has found himself under a lot of pressure after struggling in the season opener last week. With Green Bay Packers first-round pick Eric Stokes waiting in the wings, King needed to bounce back against the Detroit Lions.

It wasn’t a good start on the opening possession for King.

Facing third-and-1, Jared Goff found wide receiver Quintez Cephus for a 46-yard gain in King’s coverage.

It was the play that gave life to the Lions’ opening possession.

Just four plays later, Goff found Cephus again for a touchdown.

Joe Barry’s defense had no answers for the Saints’ offense a week ago, and they made the worst possible start on Detroit’s opening possession. With a packed Lambeau Field making noise, the Packers wanted to make a fast start and set the tone for the rest of the game.

But the Lions had other ideas, and to march down the field with such ease and score a touchdown is a bad start.

Whether Stokes is more involved moving forward remains to be seen, but there’s no doubt King is under pressure. With All-Pro Jaire Alexander shutting down receivers on one side of the field, quarterbacks have targeted King more often, and they’ve found success in recent games.

In the Packers’ defense, they are learning a new system under Joe Barry. That said, there’s no excuse for the way they’ve started the season. If they can’t make quick adjustments, the Lions are going to put up a lot of points tonight.
