The Packers will be without Kevin King and Elgton Jenkins in Week 3.

The Green Bay Packers will need some backups to step up on Sunday Night Football against the San Francisco 49ers.

Green Bay will be without many key starters. Earlier today, the team announced that starting cornerback Kevin King will miss the game due to illness.

Starting left tackle Elgton Jenkins was already ruled out due to an ankle injury. And don’t forget that the Packers’ top offensive tackle David Bakhtiari is on the PUP list, and their best edge rusher Za’Darius Smith is on injured reserve.

Packers inactives: Backups need to step up in Week 3

Below is a list of the four inactives for the Packers tonight, according to the team’s official website:

  • CB Kevin King
  • OL Elgton Jenkins
  • S Vernon Scott
  • LB La’Darius Hamilton

Green Bay will be relying on a number of backups to step in and make a difference.

Yosh Nijman is expected to start at left tackle, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. This would be a big call if Matt LaFleur opts for an inexperienced player in Nijman — who played well in the preseason — ahead of Dennis Kelly, who has 47 career starts in the NFL.

With King out, we can expect to see more from first-round pick Eric Stokes, a player who deserved more opportunities even if King was active. But this also means Chandon Sullivan will likely play more snaps. Rookie Shemar Jean-Charles is also active for the first time. Could he play a role on defense tonight?

A number of starters will be missing for the Packers tonight, but that’s football. LaFleur needs his team to start fast, something they didn’t do in their first road game, two weeks ago against the New Orleans Saints.

It will be a tough early test for this Packers team on Sunday Night Football.
