Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has been wearing a football pendant with his late father’s ashes inside it since the beginning of the season — now he has a safe place for it to stay when he handles the rock.

According to Lily Zhao of FOX6 Sports, Green Bay equipment “guru” Red Batty recently sowed a special pocket in Jones’ jersey for the pendent to be safely stored.

During a game against the Detroit Lions, Jones temporarily lost the pendent in the end zone. Thankfully, Packers team trainer Bryan Engel found the pendent with the ashes still safe inside and brought it back to Jones in one piece.

Jones was able to wear the pendent again — with the newly sewn pocket — during their 30-28 week three victory against the San Francisco 49ers last Sunday night. The pendent, with its ashes, were kept safe throughout the contest.

Jones’ father, Alvin Jones Sr., passed away in April due to complications with COVID-19. Since then, he’s been able to honor his father with stellar performances to start the 2021 season, especially versus Detroit, where he first lost the pendent.

The Packers running back earned four touchdowns against the Lions in week three — only one came on the ground while the other three were in the air.

"“He’d be happy,” Jones said of his dad after leading Green Bay to a 35–17 win over Detroit. “He’d be like, if you lose [the pendent] any way, lose it in the end zone.”"

He followed that up with one touchdown and 82 yards on 19 carries against the Niners in week three, where he first sported the newly sewn jersey pocket for his pendent.

Jones and the Packers will look to extend their winning streak to three on Sunday when they face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

With his father’s spirit safely cushioned on his chest, Jones will hopefully find some more of that end-zone magic Green Bay has been fortunate to see to start the 2021 season.
