Packers coach Matt LaFleur wouldn’t rule out the “worst-case scenario” when it comes to Jaire Alexander’s injury.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur didn’t reveal much when asked about Jaire Alexander’s injury.

Alexander left Sunday’s victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a shoulder injury and he was unable to return.

“Well we’re still getting all the opinions,” LaFleur said. “I’ll have an update for you guys on Wednesday.”

The biggest concern from Monday’s press conference was that LaFleur wasn’t able to rule out a significant injury. He doesn’t need to give any details until Wednesday when the first injury report for Week 5 will be released, but it’s still a concern that he didn’t rule out Alexander missing significant time.

“Everything is kind of getting looked at right now,” LaFleur said, when asked if he could rule out the “worst-case scenario”.

“They’re just getting some other opinions on how to proceed, I guess, is the best way for me to say it right now,” LaFleur said.

LaFleur did confirm that it is a shoulder injury and not a collarbone issue. That rules out a broken collarbone, an injury that would almost certainly have kept him sidelined for a couple of months minimum. So that’s a positive takeaway from the press conference.

Until Wednesday, we wait. Everyone knows Jaire Alexander’s importance to the Packers’ defense. He’s coming off an All-Pro and Pro Bowl season and is one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Without him, the Packers will need to lean on first-round pick Eric Stokes and Kevin King (when he returns from injury) as the two starters. If King remains out, Isaac Yiadom will likely start with Stokes.

Hopefully Alexander will make a quick recovery and won’t miss much time. We await further updates from LaFleur later this week.
