3 players Packers should make trade offer for before deadline
Brandon Aiyuk
This is perhaps the least-likely scenario of the three, but Brian Gutekunst should at least pick up the phone. Would the San Francisco 49ers trade a former first-round pick to an NFC rival? Most likely not.
After all, it was only in 2020 that they reportedly traded up to get ahead of the Packers before drafting Aiyuk.
However, something clearly doesn’t seem right for Aiyuk in San Francisco. Despite all of his talent, he seems to be shut out on offense and has just nine catches for 96 yards and a touchdown this season.
There’s no doubting his talent. Last season, he caught 60 passes for 748 yards and five touchdowns with 289 yards after the catch in 12 games. Many predicted a breakout second season for Aiyuk. But for some reason, he’s not been featured often on offense.
The Packers should at least pick up the phone. If he plays to his best in this offense catching passes from Aaron Rodgers, look out. It would be game over for opposing defenses.
Who knows what’s next for Aiyuk in San Francisco. Even if the Niners are willing to trade him, we can probably assume it will be elsewhere. But if I were Brian Gutekunst, I’d be picking up the phone. The 49ers didn’t mind doing their ‘due diligence’ when they believed Aaron Rodgers was available, after all.
