Packers: Patrick Mahomes gives Jordan Love advice postgame
Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes gave Packers QB Jordan Love some advice postgame.
It was a hard-fought battle between the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9, with the Chiefs holding on to win by six points.
For Jordan Love, it was a learning experience. He only found out four days ago that he would be making his first NFL start with Aaron Rodgers on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Love looked like a quarterback making his first career start. There were good plays and bad ones, with Love going 19/34 for 190 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. It was a struggle for a Green Bay offense scoring just seven points, although Love wasn’t helped by two missed field goals in the first half.
In his fifth season as a pro and fourth as a starter, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been in Love’s position. He sat on the bench as a rookie behind Alex Smith. Following the game, Mahomes had some advice for the Packers’ young quarterback.
“I told him to keep the process,” Mahomes told FOX Sports about his postgame conversation with Love. “I sat for a full year before I even came out and started playing, behind Alex Smith. He gets to sit behind Aaron Rodgers and learn and your time will come when it comes.”
Mahomes knows as well as anyone the value of sitting behind a veteran QB with a great coaching staff and developing his game.
One could argue Love is in an even better situation, getting to watch a future Hall-of-Famer each day on the practice field. Like Mahomes, Love has an excellent coaching staff.
His first start, on the road, wasn’t an easy one. But many young quarterbacks struggle early in their career.
For Love, there was plenty to learn from. He’ll only get better from this performance.
