Jordan Love

Far and away the most likely scenario for the Packers at quarterback in 2022 if Aaron Rodgers departs is to go with Jordan Love. If Rodgers is traded in the spring, Love would get an entire offseason and training camp to work with the first-team offense. When it comes to getting valuable reps and building chemistry with receivers, this would help.

It would also give Love another full offseason to develop his game. He’s clearly got talent and a ton of potential, but his inexperience showed in Week 9 versus the Chiefs.

Committing to Love in 2022 would likely also require a mini-rebuild. Key players like Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Za’Darius Smith, and De’Vondre Campbell could be gone, all depending on the salary cap and which free agents the team is able to re-sign.

And if Love is under center, we can expect him to be inconsistent as he learns. That’s to be expected of any young quarterback.

It could take the Packers out of Super Bowl contention next season, but making the full-time transition to Love would be with a long-term view, just as when the Packers went with Rodgers as their starter in 2008.

If it’s not Rodgers next year, Love is in pole position. But what if the Packers determine Love still isn’t ready?
