Packers: Top 3 underrated players so far this season
Billy Turner
Billy Turner will be suiting up for his 27th straight start for the Packers this weekend in Minnesota. No other player on the Packers offensive line can say the same.
While Elgton Jenkins gets heaps of praise for what he’s done this season at left tackle (and rightfully so), Turner’s performances on the opposite side have been very impressive too.
Even when the offensive line completely fell apart against the Kansas City Chiefs two weeks ago, Turner impressed. He came back this past week with an equally strong performance.
After Carlos Dunlap tossed Turner’s cleat 30 yards down the field out of spite, Big Billy got the last laugh when he assisted AJ Dillon into the end zone for the game-sealing touchdown to an eruption of cheers in the snow globe of Lambeau Field.
Turner’s game is steadily balanced between run blocking and pass protection, which suits the Packers’ offense that mixes the wide zone running game with plenty of straight drop-backs for their MVP quarterback on true pass sets.
I’m sure the Packers were tempted at the thought of shifting Elgton Jenkins all the way over to right tackle when David Bakhtiari returns, but Turner has pretty much removed that doubt from their minds. He’s more than good enough to be the starting right tackle going forward.
