Packers: Two teams to root for in Week 12 in race for No. 1 seed
The Green Bay Packers can significantly help their chances of earning the NFC’s top seed by defeating the Los Angeles Rams in Week 12.
The current NFC leaders, the Arizona Cardinals, are on bye. The Packers can overtake them in the standings this week with a victory as they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
There are a handful of teams in the mix for the top seed. The race is heating up. Along with hoping the Packers win on Sunday, here are two other teams fans should root for in Week 12:
Las Vegas Raiders (at Dallas Cowboys)
It sure feels like we’re set up for a Mike McCarthy vs. Packers playoff showdown, doesn’t it? Let’s just make sure if it’s going to happen, it’s at Lambeau Field.
Dallas has been impressive this season under McCarthy, looking strong on both sides of the ball. The Cowboys are very much in the mix for a deep playoff run this season.
At 7-3, they currently sit half a game behind the Packers. On Thanksgiving Day, they host the Las Vegas Raiders. If the Raiders can pull off the upset victory, the Packers would have the chance to put some daylight between themselves and the Cowboys this weekend.
The Raiders play in the AFC, making them an easy team to root for this week.
Indianapolis Colts (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
There will be no head-to-head tiebreaker with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year. Any NFC title game rematch will have to wait for January.
The Bucs won the Super Bowl as a wild-card team last season but currently lead the NFC South and are well positioned to make a run for the conference’s top seed.
Tom Brady often saves his best football for late in the year, so let’s hope the Bucs can drop a game while we’re still in November. And it’s a tough one on the road against a red-hot Indianapolis Colts team.
A Colts win here could go a long way for the Packers in the race for the No. 1 seed.
