Kevin King

It was a surprise when the Packers re-signed Kevin King this past offseason after a disappointing 2020, so there’s a chance they bring him back on a similar short-term contract. However, he was re-signed this past offseason to start while rookie Eric Stokes develops.

Next year, Stokes will be in year two. He’s shown a lot of potential already this year despite being inconsistent. By next season, there’s every chance the Packers will go with Jaire Alexander and Stokes as their starters on the outside.

Free-agent addition Rasul Douglas has outplayed King this season although, to King’s credit, he’s also had a number of solid performances. If it comes down to re-signing one of them, Douglas should be the choice as things stand.

Like we’ve seen throughout his career, King has struggled to stay healthy this season, missing five games so far.

If Green Bay is able to bring back Douglas, it seems likely King would be playing elsewhere in 2022. While it’s possible the Packers re-sign him for depth at cornerback, there’s also a good chance they move forward with Alexander and Stokes as the starters and replace King in the draft. King needs to stay healthy down the stretch and finish the season strong.
