Packers: Four free agents who won’t be back in 2022
De’Vondre Campbell
The Packers absolutely should do everything in their power to re-sign De’Vondre Campbell in the spring as he’s having an All-Pro season. Campbell has been a difference maker in the middle of Joe Barry’s defense and it’s hard to believe he was available as a free agent in the summer.
Chances are quite high he won’t be a free agent as long next offseason and there should be plenty of interest around the league.
The Packers will need to create over $32 million just to get under the salary cap next year, according to Spotrac. And that’s before they can even consider being able to offer Campbell a big long-term contract extension.
If this is Campbell’s only season in Green Bay, it’s turning out to be an excellent one. Hopefully, if nothing else, it will show the Packers’ front office the value of having a game changer at inside linebacker. It’s a position the team far too often overlooks, but it’s no surprise this is the Packers’ best defense in years, and Campbell is a major reason why.
Hopefully this won’t be Campbell’s final year with the Packers but, unfortunately, given the team’s salary-cap situation, there’s a good possibility he’ll be playing elsewhere in 2022.
