When’s the earliest Packers can win the NFC North?

The Green Bay Packers have a comfortable lead in the NFC North and look set to win the division for the third straight year under head coach Matt LaFleur.

Currently sitting 3.5 games ahead of the Minnesota Vikings with just six weeks left in the regular season, the Packers could be crowned NFC North champions in the near future.

But just how soon? Let’s look at two scenarios — one in which other results go the Packers’ way, and another where Green Bay seals the division regardless of the Vikings and Chicago Bears’ performances.

Packers can win NFC North as early as Week 14

The Packers are currently on their bye week. They return in Week 14 to host the Bears. In a perfect scenario, it could be an NFC North-clinching win.

Should Minnesota lose its next two games — at the Detroit Lions and versus the Pittsburgh Steelers — Green Bay could win the NFC North with a victory over Chicago on Sunday Night Football.

Considering the Lions are winless, this scenario is unlikely. But the earliest the division can be wrapped up is the Packers’ very next game.

How soon Packers can win NFC North without help

The previous scenario requires Green Bay to win its next game and Minnesota lose two. But how soon can Matt LaFleur’s team seal the division even if the Vikings keep winning games?

The wait would have to continue until Week 16. In that scenario, the Vikings continue to win their games and have a 9-6 record with two games remaining. That would require wins over the Lions, Steelers, Bears, and Los Angeles Rams.

If the Packers also win their games — versus Bears, at Baltimore Ravens, versus Cleveland Browns — they would maintain a three-game advantage and therefore be crowned NFC North champs.

So, there you have it. If all goes well, Green Bay can win the division as early as Week 14. But to seal it without needing help elsewhere, the earliest is Week 16.
