Under Matt LaFleur, the Packers have saved their best football for December.

Championship teams save their best football for late in the season. We saw it time and time again during the Tom Brady era with the New England Patriots. Under Matt LaFleur, the Green Bay Packers have saved their best for December.

Under LaFleur, the Packers have played in nine regular-season games in the month of December. They’ve won all of them.

Here’s the full list of games under LaFleur in December:

Packers in December under Matt LaFleur

  • December 1, 2019: Green Bay 31, NY Giants 13
  • December 8, 2019: Green Bay 20, Washington 15
  • December 15, 2019: Green Bay 21, Chicago 13
  • December 23, 2019: Green Bay 23, Minnesota 10
  • December 29, 2019: Green Bay 23, Detroit 20
  • December 6, 2020: Green Bay 30, Philadelphia 16
  • December 13, 2020: Green Bay 31, Detroit 24
  • December 20, 2020: Green Bay 24, Carolina 16
  • December 27, 2020: Green Bay 40, Tennessee 14

On that list, two stick out the most.

The first was an NFC North-clinching victory over the Minnesota Vikings two nights before Christmas in 2019. Previously, the Packers hadn’t won a game at U.S. Bank Stadium and many were expecting another defeat late in the year. But LaFleur’s team impressed all night, winning the game 23-10.

The team’s most recent December game was also a special one.

Just after Christmas, the Packers welcomed the Tennessee Titans to Lambeau Field, one of the top contenders in the AFC.

With no Jamaal Williams, Green Bay leaned on running back AJ Dillon in what proved to be a breakout performance in the snow. Dillon put up 124 yards on the ground with two touchdowns.

Coming off their bye, the Packers get their first taste of December football this season when they host the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football. They then visit the Baltimore Ravens and host the Cleveland Browns on Christmas Day. The Packers’ final two games will be played in January.

Can Matt LaFleur improve to 12-0 in December?
