After struggling for much of last year, Kevin King signed a one-year ‘prove-it’ deal in the offseason. For the most part, he’s had a solid season. However, the arrival of Rasul Douglas has limited his role somewhat.

Last week in the win over the Chicago Bears, King only played three defensive snaps, according to Pro Football Reference. It’s unclear the exact reason why, but King isn’t on this week’s injury report.

Eric Stokes and Douglas have been outperforming King on the outside while Chandon Sullivan is having a good season in the slot. Opportunities will only be harder for King once All-Pro Jaire Alexander is back in the lineup.

When King does get on the field, he needs to play well. A free agent again in the offseason, King’s performances from this point on could determine whether he’s back in 2022 or looking for a new team.

If King can stay healthy for the rest of the year, play well, and make an impact in the playoffs, he’ll give the Packers a tough decision. But based on how the season has gone so far, this could be King’s final year in Green Bay. He has a lot to play for between now and the end of the season.
