Three Packers playing for a 2022 roster spot in the last four games
Dennis Kelly
Free-agent addition Dennis Kelly has had to wait a while for his opportunity, but an injury to Billy Turner last week gave him his first offensive snaps of the year. With Turner out of action for the time being, Kelly looks set to be the Packers’ starting right tackle moving forward.
Kelly has 47 career starts in the NFL and started all 16 games for the Tennessee Titans in 2020. The Packers are lucky to have an experienced backup ready to step in with Turner out. Now he has an opportunity to prove himself. Kelly is a free agent in the spring.
As of right now, it’s unclear when Turner will be ready to return from injury. In the meantime, if Kelly can put in strong performances, it could land him a new deal in 2022.
This was the exact reason why the Packers signed him. With David Bakhtiari, Elgton Jenkins, and now Turner injured, Kelly is the most experienced tackle on the team and able to step in immediately.
While the Packers will be hoping to have Bakhtiari and Turner available again in the near future, Kelly has an opportunity in front of him, beginning this week in what should be his first Packers start against the Baltimore Ravens.
