Packers: Davante Adams sets new franchise record vs. Lions
Davante Adams continues to strengthen his case that he’s the best Green Bay Packers wide receiver in the Aaron Rodgers era.
Adams knew that 22 receiving yards in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions would be enough to break the Packers’ single-season record for receiving yards, breaking the record Jordy Nelson set in 2014.
Adams did this with ease in the first half against the Lions.
With this, Adams has just about every single-season receiving record for the Packers. He set a new record for most receptions in a single season this year, breaking his own record from 2020. He shares the franchise record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season, when he put up 18 last year.
And, now, Adams owns the record for most receiving yards in a single season.
Adams caught six passes for 55 yards in the first half against the Lions. It’s possible he’s played his final snap of the regular season.
The Packers made the decision to play their starters in this game, but it won’t be surprising if they come out at halftime. The result of the game is meaningless for the Packers after securing the NFC’s number one seed a week ago.
The importance of playing this week was to maintain some rhythm with a week off coming in the wild-card round. Matt LaFleur decided against going three weeks between games for the starters.
Aaron Rodgers has built some great connections with wide receivers over the years, from Jordy Nelson to Randall Cobb to Greg Jennings to James Jones. It’s fair to argue that Davante Adams is the best receiver he’s played with. Rodgers called him the best player he’s played with.
Hopefully this won’t be Davante Adams’ final regular season game with the Packers. If it is, he’s made it a memorable one by setting a new franchise single-season record.
