Packers set to get Randall Cobb back from injury vs. 49ers
The Green Bay Packers are getting some more help on offense for the playoffs.
Wide receiver Randall Cobb, who has been out of action due to a core muscle injury, is set to make his return for Saturday night’s divisional-round game against the San Francisco 49ers.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Cobb is “expected to play this week”.
Only a couple of months after having surgery, this is quite an incredible comeback for Cobb. After a great return to Green Bay this season, he will come back just in time for the games that matter the most.
Davante Adams might be the best wide receiver Aaron Rodgers has ever thrown to, but few can compete with the big-time moments Cobb has produced. Think of the game-winners, the key third-down conversions, and the momentum-shifting plays.
And that includes in the playoffs.
Who can forget his three-touchdown performance against the New York Giants in the wild-card round five years ago? That included catching a Hail Mary before halftime.
This season, Cobb has again proven to be a go-to receiver for Rodgers when the Packers desperately need a play. His value to this offense goes behind just the numbers — Cobb has caught 28 passes for 375 yards and five touchdowns in 12 games this season.
If the Packers face a crucial third down or desperately need to turn a red-zone trip into a touchdown, don’t be surprised if Rodgers looks in the direction of Cobb.
With a healthier offensive line and now getting Cobb back, the Packers’ offense is as close to full strength as we’ve seen for some time.
This could be Cobb’s final run in Green Bay. Let’s hope he comes up with some big plays and finally gets to lift the Lombardi Trophy with the Packers. Getting him back is huge news ahead of the playoffs.
