Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams has dominated the San Francisco 49ers throughout his career.

Saturday night in the divisional round, he could be set for another huge performance.

For the Packers to achieve their postseason goals, they know they must lean on the Aaron Rodgers-to-Davante Adams connection. Opposing defenses know this, too, but that doesn’t mean they will be able to stop it.

San Francisco’s pass defense ranks sixth in the NFL, but its secondary isn’t as strong as two years ago in the NFC title game.

Richard Sherman had an All-Pro season in 2019. He now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While their secondary is still talented, Adams should be able to find success in this matchup just as he did back in Week 3. And, well, throughout his entire career versus the Niners.

In five career games against San Francisco, Adams has put up over 100 yards four times, while only going one game without a touchdown catch. Earlier this season, Adams had an outstanding 12 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown.

Davante Adams career record vs. 49ers

  • Week 6, 2018: 10 receptions, 132 yards, 2 touchdowns
  • Week 12, 2019: 7 receptions, 43 yards, 1 touchdown
  • NFC title game, 2019: 9 receptions, 138 yards
  • Week 9, 2020: 10 receptions, 173 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Week 3, 2021: 12 receptions, 132 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Total: 48 receptions, 618 yards, 5 touchdowns

Emmanuel Moseley and Josh Norman were the 49ers’ starting cornerbacks in Week 3 and will likely be the starting duo again on Saturday.

Moseley has been the 49ers’ best corner this season. According to Pro Football Reference, he’s allowing a passer rating of just 65.6, and he’s yet to allow a touchdown in his coverage.

Moseley didn’t follow Adams in the first game, and as usual, the Packers moved their star wide receiver around. He spent time outside and in the slot, and on both the left and right side of the field.

The Packers may want to get Adams on Josh Norman as often as possible. Norman has allowed a passer rating of 110.6 in his coverage this season, according to Pro Football Reference. K’Waun Williams has allowed 77.6% of passes in his coverage to be completed with a passer rating of 91.7.

Yes, the 49ers’ pass defense is strong. Much of that has to do with getting pressure up front. But if the offensive line can give Aaron Rodgers time, there will be opportunities for Davante Adams against their secondary.

He made the most of it in Week 3. Can Adams lead the Packers to a playoff victory on Saturday?
