Packers 2022 four-round mock draft following playoff loss to 49ers
Okay, this may be a tad bit of a homer pick, but when my 92nd pick came up and he was on the board at the top, I couldn’t resist. De’Vondre Campbell is coming off of an All-Pro season and playing for just $2 million this year on a one-year deal. He is going to get paid this offseason, and the Pack won’t be able to match a huge offer he’ll get elsewhere. Unless he takes a huge pay cut to stay in Green Bay, he’ll be gone.
If you are a Badger fan and have watched Chenal play, you know he’s all over the place. He is a great run defender, something the Packers desperately need. Something that Campbell provided, that Chenal will not be able to replace, is dropping back in pass coverage. He isn’t the most fluid and mobile linebacker, so he’d likely be an early-down linebacker that would need to be put in a position to blitz and be a run-stopper.
I think this is a case of drafting a player with a lot of potential and worrying about where to play him later. I could see him being an inside linebacker on early downs and then possibly rushing the quarterback from the line on third downs, similar to what the Packers have done with Za’Darius Smith, as he’s shown he is a capable pass rusher from the inside.
