Packers 2022 free agency predictions: Who re-signs, who walks?
Packers 2022 free agent predictions. Who re-signs, who walks?
The 2022 offseason will be a transformative one for the Green Bay Packers. They will either remain contenders in the NFC, putting their future at risk to do so, or enter a short rebuild, trying to build a new team infused with young talent.
The path which they follow will likely be chosen by future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. If Rodgers stays, they’ll have no choice but to build a contender around him, trying to get him another ring in the twilight of his career. If he leaves, it’s likely that they’ll try to retool around young, talented quarterback Jordan Love.
Much of the Packers’ future will be dictated by whether or not they choose to retain key free agents, pushing salary cap hits to the future in order to do so. According to Spotrac, the Packers will have 20 free agents to make decisions on, including unanimous All-Pro receiver Davante Adams and All-Pro middle linebacker De’Vondre Campbell.
The Packers are currently $38.41 million in salary cap debt, per Spotrac, so they’ll have no choice but to let some of those players walk, even if they do push salary cap hits into the future. GM Brian Gutekunst is going to have some tough decisions to make this offseason.
In this article, I’ll try to predict whether the Packers retain each free agent in two different scenarios: if Rodgers stays, and if Rodgers leaves.
Let’s start with the best receiver in the NFL.
