Four players Packers could trade in 2022 offseason
David Bakhtiari
This is by far the least likely of the four, but it’s something to think about despite how much we all love David Bakhtiari. Again, this would only be a consideration if the Packers are entering rebuild mode. If Rodgers is back and the Packers plan to go all-in, there’s absolutely no way they trade away their All-Pro left tackle.
But what if Rodgers is gone and the Packers’ focus shifts from the present to their long-term future? Bakhtiari is 30 years old and coming off a significant knee injury. The All-Pro spoke about the setbacks he dealt with in an interview with Cheesehead TV’s Aaron Nagler. Bakhtiari said in the interview he has no concerns about his knee long term.
But if the Packers are in rebuild mode, they would be paying a lot for their All-Pro tackle. Perhaps a team in contention would be willing to make a trade to strengthen their offensive line in 2022.
Where it gets complicated is with the salary cap.
According to Over The Cap, the Packers would actually have to pay $4.1 million more on the cap if they were to trade Bakhtiari pre-June 1. However, if they made the trade after that date, they would save $13.44 million. The team trading for Bakhtiari would have to be OK with waiting until June to make the deal.
For that reason, this one seems less likely than the others. But if the Packers do move into 2022 without Rodgers and their focus shifts to their long-term future, perhaps trading Bakhtiari could come into play.
