Packers: 3 potential Davante Adams tag-and-trade destinations
Cincinnati Bengals
This would be scary for AFC defenses. The Cincinnati Bengals are set to play in next week’s Super Bowl, but they will also enter the 2022 offseason with $57.89 million in cap room, third-most in the NFL. Wide receiver might not be a big need for the Bengals, but with a young star at quarterback on a rookie deal, why not go and get the best wide receiver in the NFL?
Cincinnati would still have plenty of cap room to fix its offensive line issues and build the defense, but pairing Adams with rookie superstar Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd would be simply unfair.
Talk about giving your young quarterback a strong supporting cast.
In year one, Chase is already among the best wide receivers in football, catching 81 passes for 1,455 yards and 13 touchdowns in the regular season. He’s added 20 receptions for 279 yards and a touchdown in the postseason, helping the Bengals reach the Super Bowl.
Now add in Adams, arguably the NFL’s best receiver. A first-team All-Pro in each of the past two seasons and a Pro Bowler five years in a row.
As a defense, who do you double-cover? Either Adams or Chase is getting one-on-one coverage. And Joe Burrow would still have Higgins and Boyd to throw to.
For the Packers, they would be trading Adams out of the AFC, which is ideal. They could also ask for at least a first-rounder in return. For Adams, he would get to go and play for a contender with another superstar quarterback. Plus, the Bengals have more than enough cap space to give Adams the contract he wants.
Everyone’s a winner.
