Packers: Ranking top 10 moves of Brian Gutekunst’s tenure
4. Signing De’Vondre Campbell
A free agent last offseason, inside linebacker De’Vondre Campbell remained unsigned in June. The Packers brought him in to strengthen their depth at a position of need. Fast forward eight months and Campbell is a first-team All-Pro and set to land a huge contract in 2022.
Talk about a home-run addition. The Packers signed Campbell to a one-year deal worth $2 million. It’s fair to say he’ll be making significantly more than that this offseason.
Campbell made 146 tackles, two sacks, six QB hits, two interceptions, five pass defenses, and two forced fumbles. He also barely ever missed a snap. What an impact he made. Where would the Packers’ defense have been without him?
3. Drafting Elgton Jenkins
Gutekunst made one of the picks of the 2019 NFL Draft by selecting Elgton Jenkins in the second round. Jenkins was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2019 and then became a Pro Bowler in 2020. Jenkins spent most of his time at guard in those two seasons, but also showed his versatility to play all five positions along the offensive line.
With David Bakhtiari injured, Jenkins was the Packers’ starting left tackle in 2021 before suffering a season-ending injury.
Jenkins is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL at every position. A superstar and a big reason for the success of the Packers’ offensive line in recent years.
