An early look at the Packers’ 2023 free agents.

One of the most interesting offseasons in recent memory awaits the Green Bay Packers. Whether Aaron Rodgers returns and they go all-in for 2022 or Rodgers leaves and they enter rebuild mode, this offseason will shape the next few years in Green Bay.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst has plenty of decisions to make this offseason in order to get under the salary cap, while also working out the best steps forward with Rodgers and free agents like Davante Adams, De’Vondre Campbell, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

But general managers also have an eye on the future. So let’s look ahead at who is scheduled to become a free agent in 2023, according to Over The Cap.

Packers 2023 unrestricted free agents

  • Aaron Rodgers, QB
  • Jaire Alexander, CB
  • Elgton Jenkins, OL
  • Rashan Gary, EDGE
  • Darnell Savage, S
  • Za’Darius Smith, EDGE
  • Preston Smith, EDGE
  • Adrian Amos, S
  • Billy Turner, T
  • Randall Cobb, WR
  • Marcedes Lewis, TE
  • Mason Crosby, K
  • Dean Lowry, DL
  • Ty Summers, ILB

There are a few things to note here. The Packers have fifth-year options on Gary and Savage, which would add an additional season to their current contracts. They will make their decision on both players’ fifth-year options this offseason.

Also, some players on this list could be gone this year.

Rodgers may retire or get traded. The Smith Bros., Cobb, Lewis, and Crosby could be cap casualties.

We should expect some contract extensions in the near future, too. Alexander and Amos both deserve new deals. That would also potentially help lower their 2022 cap hits.

But it’s still not great to see a number of young stars like Alexander, Jenkins, and Gary with expiring contracts only a year from now. Especially given the current mess the Packers’ salary cap is in.

Decisions this offseason will have a direct impact on 2023 free agency.
