Packers: Aaron Rodgers named NFL MVP for fourth time
It’s two in a row for Aaron Rodgers.
As expected, the Green Bay Packers‘ superstar quarterback was named the NFL MVP on Thursday night. It’s the fourth MVP of his career and the second in a row. He becomes the first player since Peyton Manning in 2008 and 2009 to win consecutive MVP awards.
Rodgers now has four NFL MVPs to his name, which is the second-most in history. The only player with more is Manning, who has five.
It was another incredible season for Rodgers. He completed 366 of 531 passes for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He led the league in passer rating with 111.9. Rodgers also matched last year’s total of rushing touchdowns with three.
Now, the attention turns to Rodgers’ future with the Packers.
Like a year ago, we don’t know whether Rodgers will be wearing green and gold in 2022 or playing elsewhere. He could even retire. We had the same questions last offseason, but Rodgers decided to return and he backed up last year’s MVP run with another.
If Rodgers commits to playing in Green Bay next season, the team will need to work some salary cap magic to ensure they remain competitive. Part of that would likely include working out a new contract for Rodgers to lower his 2022 cap hit while also giving him the long-term security he may want with the Packers.
If this is it for the Aaron Rodgers era in Green Bay, then what a way to end it. Two straight MVP seasons. If he wants to play elsewhere, the Packers should be able to land a boatload of picks in a trade.
It’s been a fantastic season for Aaron Rodgers and his fourth MVP award is well deserved. Can he make it three in a row in 2022 and, if so, which team will he do it with?
