Packers: Aaron Rodgers’ trade value higher than ever after MVP win
If another team wants to trade for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, they are going to need to pay a lot.
We don’t yet know Rodgers’ decision on his future, whether he will commit to playing in 2022 and if so, where he wants to play.
It could be in Green Bay, likely resulting in a new contract and the chance to close out his career with the Packers. However, he may also request a trade. Potential landing spots could include the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns, or Pittsburgh Steelers.
But no matter which team picks up the phone to make an offer, they best be prepared to send a lot the Packers’ way in return. The Packers shouldn’t trade away the MVP for anything less than multiple first-round picks plus some Day 2 selections, at the very least.
Rodgers has shown no signs of slowing down. He’s playing some of the best football of his career. Not just the MVP of the league in 2021, but also 2020.
The Los Angeles Rams made a bold move to trade for Matthew Stafford last year, and it’s paid off with a trip to the Super Bowl awaiting them this Sunday. If another team wants to make a similar move for Rodgers, the Packers should demand a lot in return.
Yes, Rodgers is older than Stafford, but this would be something we just don’t see in the NFL. The MVP of the league, not just this year but also last season, traded away.
It’s unheard of.
And it still may not happen. Maybe Rodgers decides his best chance of winning is in Green Bay. Maybe he feels ready to walk away like Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger did earlier this offseason.
But if he wants to finish his career elsewhere, the Packers have the opportunity to get a huge head-start on their rebuilding process with a boatload of draft picks coming their way.
Even at age-38, as a back-to-back MVP winner, Rodgers’ trade value will never be higher.
