Three sneaky offseason needs for the Packers in 2022.

Wide receiver and defensive tackle are among the most obvious offseason needs for the Green Bay Packers. Inside linebacker, too, if All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell isn’t re-signed.

But what about some other positions that could need some work?

Let’s look at three sneaky offseason needs for the Packers.

Cornerback

The Packers will be getting All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander back from injury in 2022. Eric Stokes will be entering his second year. He had his ups and downs as a rookie but showed Pro Bowl potential.

That’s the good news.

However, the only other cornerbacks under contract in 2022 are Shemar Jean-Charles, Kabion Ento, and Kiondre Thomas. Rasul Douglas, Kevin King, and Chandon Sullivan are all free agents.

Re-signing Douglas would help, but what won’t be easy with limited cap room after the excellent season he just had.

Guard

Depth at guard could be an issue so will need to be addressed this offseason.

Lucas Patrick, who played at both guard and center in 2021, is a free agent. Elgton Jenkins could move back to guard assuming David Bakhtiari is healthy, but Jenkins could miss time in 2022 as he recovers from a torn ACL.

Billy Turner can play guard but he will be needed at right tackle, which is his best position.

Jon Runyan Jr. and Royce Newman will likely be the starters next season, but depth is a concern. Newman improved as his rookie season went on, but he was replaced by Patrick in the starting lineup in the playoffs.

Safety

Unless the Packers exercise Darnell Savage’s fifth-year option this offseason, both Savage and Adrian Amos will be entering contract years in 2022.

The Packers may offer Amos an extension this spring. First of all, he deserves a new deal, but also it would allow Green Bay to lower his 2022 cap hit.

But even in the short term, safety could be an area of concern. Savage didn’t have his best season in 2021. And as ever, the depth behind the starters could be an issue if there is an injury.
