Packers: 3 positions that could be decimated in free agency
Cornerback
Unrestricted free agents: Rasul Douglas, Kevin King, Chandon Sullivan
Similarly to inside linebacker, the Packers could lose a lot of depth at cornerback. Fortunately, they have an All-Pro in Jaire Alexander and a potential future Pro Bowler in Eric Stokes. That gives them something to build around, which won’t be the case at linebacker if they lose Campbell.
But depth is far more important at cornerback, and right now Shemar Jean-Charles would likely be the starting slot corner.
It’s possible Green Bay can reach new deals with a couple of its free agent cornerbacks. Re-signing Rasul Douglas would be great for the Packers but it won’t be easy after the season he’s had. Douglas made five interceptions, 13 pass defenses, and two pick-sixes despite not joining the team until October.
Maybe he decides the fit in Joe Barry’s defense was perfect for him and he decides to come back, but there should be plenty of interest from other teams.
The Packers will surely want to re-sign at least one of these three cornerbacks but who knows what’s possible with their limited salary cap resources. If they can bring back Douglas then draft a cornerback, that would be the ideal scenario. But it all depends on what he’s offered from other teams.
