Aaron Rodgers is still yet to make an official decision on his future with the Green Bay Packers, but things sure seem to be trending towards him returning.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport provided an update on Rodgers’ situation with the Packers on Tuesday, reporting that a deal is being worked on should the back-to-back MVP decide to return.

According to Rapoport, the contract would be short term and make Rodgers the highest-paid player in the league.

“The two sides are in negotiations, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, for what is expected to be a short-term deal that would make him the highest-paid player in the NFL,” Rapoport said.

The fact negotiations are even ongoing could be a sign Rodgers is, at the very least, considering a return. Had Rodgers decided his future was no longer in Green Bay, would these negotiations make any sense?

“He has spoken positively about the Packers and the fact they are negotiating a possible deal for him to maybe take when he makes a decision, it’s all good news for Green Bay,” Rapoport added.

If Rodgers is made the highest-paid player in the NFL, it will be interesting to see how the Packers structure the deal to lower his 2022 cap hit. Especially if it’s only a short-term extension.

One way or another, we will know Aaron Rodgers’ decision soon.

The deadline for teams to use the franchise tag is March 8, which is only a week away. If the Packers are unable to agree on a long-term deal with Davante Adams, they may decide to use the franchise tag.

The new league year, and free agency, then begins the following week.

Rodgers said on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ a week ago that “it won’t be long” before he makes his decision.

While the wait goes on, Rapoport reporting that the two sides are in negotiations over a new contract is perhaps a good indication that Rodgers is seriously considering returning to Green Bay.

We will know the answer to that soon enough.
