The back-to-back MVP has spoken. Aaron Rodgers confirmed his Green Bay Packers return on Twitter but also cleared up some confusion over a new contract.

Pat McAfee was the first to break the news today that Rodgers will be returning to Green Bay in 2022, adding that a new deal hadn’t yet been agreed but was in the works.

This was followed by a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Rodgers had agreed to a four-year, $200 million deal with $153 million guaranteed. McAfee responded to the tweet calling it “false”.

And now Rodgers has confirmed this. In a tweet, the four-time NFL MVP said that he will indeed be returning to the Packers for 2022, but the reports of him signing a new deal are “inaccurate”.

The main thing here is his commitment to returning. Aaron Rodgers and the Packers will be able to come to an agreement on a new deal, one that gives Rodgers what he wants but also helps Green Bay’s cap situation.

The Packers need to lower Rodgers’ 2022 cap hit, especially if they plan to re-sign All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams either to the franchise tag or a long-term deal. A new contract for Rodgers can help achieve this.

So, after a couple of months of uncertainty over Rodgers’ future with the Packers, we now know his plans to return. And we can officially forget about any trade to the Denver Broncos with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that the Broncos have traded for Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson.

That’s great news for the Packers as it means there is now one less great quarterback playing in the NFC. Tom Brady retired and now Wilson is on his way to the AFC.

A new deal for Aaron Rodgers shouldn’t be far away as the Packers need to get under the salary cap a week from Wednesday.
