Aaron Rodgers reportedly commits to Packers return in 2022
Aaron Rodgers is returning to the Green Bay Packers in 2022.
Pat McAfee revealed on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday that Rodgers has told him he has decided to return to the Packers next season.
According to McAfee, no contract has been agreed yet but a cap-friendly deal is to be expected.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport had reported that Rodgers and the Packers had agreed on a four-year deal worth $200 million, although McAfee has said this isn’t accurate.
This is, of course, huge news for the Packers.
Rodgers is the back-to-back MVP and if he’s returning on a cap-friendly deal, it could help Green Bay also re-sign key free agents like Davante Adams and De’Vondre Campbell.
The other question is what this means for third-year quarterback Jordan Love. If Aaron Rodgers is signing a multi-year deal with the Packers, Love might never get the opportunity to become the starting quarterback in Green Bay on his rookie contract.
On the show, McAfee said that retirement was a real consideration for Rodgers. It would appear Rodgers is confident the Packers can keep the core of their team together and put together a competitive roster in 2022.
This is the first domino to fall in what will be a busy offseason for the Packers.
With Rodgers committing to returning, we can assume it also means Adams will be back. What does this mean for the Packers in free agency? Can they re-sign their key free agents? Will they be able to create enough cap space to make any signings?
In time we will find out, but this is big news.
