Packers: 3 potential replacements for Davante Adams after trade
Trade target: Packers should make offer for DK Metcalf
If the Packers don’t like the options available in free agency, it doesn’t mean they can’t add a veteran wide receiver. The other possibility would be via a trade.
The Seattle Seahawks are entering a rebuild. They have traded away star quarterback Russell Wilson and released linebacker Bobby Wagner, ending an era in Seattle. Would they be willing to listen to trade offers for DK Metcalf?
The Packers have the draft picks to make an offer with two first-rounders and two second-rounders to work with. They also have enough cap room to offer Metcalf a long-term extension, should they wish. Per Spotrac, Metcalf has one year remaining on his rookie contract.
Metcalf could dominate in the Packers’ offense. An All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2020, Metcalf is 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, but also runs a 4.33-second 40-yard dash.
Since the start of 2020, Metcalf has made 158 catches for 2,270 yards and 22 touchdowns. He could instantly become the WR1 in Green Bay’s offense, and he is also only 24 years old.
Would Seattle be open to trading Metcalf? That remains to be seen. But consider that Metcalf will be a free agent in 2023. For a rebuilding Seahawks team, it could make sense. For the Packers, it certainly would.
