What are the Packers’ options at WR after Davante Adams trade?
If you are a Green Bay Packers fan and have not heard of the bombshell trade which sent All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for two high picks in this year’s draft (2022 first- and second-round picks) then I am sorry you have to hear this from me.
This trade may work out for both sides down the road, but as of right now and the 2022 Green Bay Packers, there is a glaring hole on this team, and it is wide receiver.
Luckily for the Packers, there are a few options to get the receiving corps in a position to succeed this coming season and for the future.
Packers could sign one of remaining veteran receivers in free agency
Something Green Bay can do to continue to please their starting quarterback and help give him weapons after trading away Adams is to sign some of the top available free agents that are still on the market. After trading Adams, the Packers freed $20 million cap space, making it easier for them to test the FA market.
The top free-agent wide receivers that are available are Julio Jones (33 years old), Jarvis Landry (29), Odell Beckham Jr. (29), JuJu Smith-Schuster (25), T.Y. Hilton (32) and former Packer Marquez Valdes-Scantling (27).
This list gives some interesting options for the Packers to bring in a veteran option to take over the role of WR1. If Green Bay could land one or more of these guys with the money freed up after moving on from Adams, it would put Green Bay back in a position to have a successful air attack this coming season.
Packers safety Adrian Amos took to twitter following the trade news to recruit former teammate Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry.

Seeing as the Packers’ receivers as of today are Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers and Juwann Winfree, look for the Packers to add a big name to this group.
Packers could draft a first-round wide receiver
In return for Davante Adams, the Packers received picks 22 and 53 in this upcoming draft, meaning the Packers now have five picks in the top 100. Green Bay can bolster the wide receiver room not only for this year but for the future.
If Green Bay can find a way to draft wide receiver Chris Olave out of Ohio State with one of its first two picks, it would add a young and talented player who is coming off his best season in college in which he put up 936 yards on 65 catches, taking 13 of them into the end zone. He also has played in the cold which is a major plus if he is coming to the frozen tundra.
Another rookie that the Packers should have high on their draft board at this position is Jameson Williams from Alabama. He may be hard for the Packers to get because of how dominant he was last year at Alabama. Coming off a season with 79 receptions for 1,572 yards and 15 touchdowns, Williams would be an immediate playmaker for Aaron Rodgers to add into his arsenal.
The only way Green Bay could steal Williams in the draft would be if he falls close to them. Williams tore his ACL turning the National Championship game against Georgia in January. This injury may cause other teams to pass on him, but he is an exceptional talent. If he is available, the Packers have to pull the trigger.
Although many fans may have been blindsided by this news last night, all we can do is be thankful that we got to watch the best wide receiver in the NFL develop over the last eight seasons. Just remember that the front office has a plan. They were able to repair the relationship with the franchise quarterback, and they will be able to make this roster compete for a championship this year, it just takes time. To quote the great Aaron Rodgers: “R-E-L-A-X”.
