Round 1 (28): Devin Lloyd, LB, Utah

Inside linebacker is no longer a huge need after the Packers re-signed All-Pro De’Vondre Campbell, but it was hard to pass up one of the best defensive players in the class. A combination of Campbell and Devin Lloyd in the middle of Joe Barry’s defense could be dominant.

To sum up what great value it would be to land Lloyd at No. 28, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah ranked him as the ninth-best player in the class, writing that he has “Pro Bowl potential”. Jeremiah also noted that Lloyd spent time lined up on the edge, so he would add versatility to the Packers’ defense.

Lloyd is a three-down linebacker and can do a bit of everything.

Rush the passer? Check. Lloyd had seven sacks in 2021. Cover pass catchers? You bet. He made six pass defenses and four interceptions last season, including two pick-sixes. Lloyd also offers plenty in run defense. He made 111 tackles and 22 tackles for loss last year.

Green Bay already has an excellent secondary, especially if Rasul Douglas is back. Now inside linebacker could also become a huge strength of the defense. Campbell is coming off an All-Pro season, while Lloyd could be a key contributor from Day 1.

Inside linebacker might not be the Packers’ biggest need, but if Lloyd is there at No. 28, it should be an easy decision for Brian Gutekunst.
