5 wide receivers Packers should trade for to replace Davante Adams
Five wide receivers the Packers should consider trading for to replace Davante Adams.
It will be impossible for the Green Bay Packers to truly ‘replace’ Davante Adams. There is no wide receiver in the NFL who will match his dominance and connection with Aaron Rodgers this season, but that doesn’t mean the Packers can’t improve overall at the position.
Through a combination of bringing in a veteran receiver and using the draft, the Packers can put together a talented, well-rounded wide receiver corps.
Outside of Odell Beckham, there aren’t many free-agent receivers available who could take on the WR1 role in Green Bay. If the team turns to free agency, it will be for a complementary piece like Will Fuller or Jarvis Landry. Beckham would’ve been an ideal target had it not been for a torn ACL that could sideline him for most of the 2022 season.
The Packers’ best option may be to explore potential trades. Here are five wide receivers they could consider making an offer for.
5. Brandin Cooks, Houston Texans
A trade for Brandin Cooks ticks a lot of boxes. He plays for an AFC team. The Houston Texans are in rebuild mode, so they may be willing to listen to offers. For the Packers, they could benefit greatly from acquiring the veteran wide receiver.
Cooks has put up over 1,000 receiving yards in six of the past seven seasons, including both his years in Houston. Even when he’s had poor quarterback play, Cooks has delivered.
Cooks would give the Packers’ offense the deep threat they desperately need after losing Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and he could be an ideal WR2.
Cooks has found success everywhere he’s been. First with the New Orleans Saints, then the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams, and most recently the Texans. By catching passes from Aaron Rodgers and, still only 28 years old, there’s no reason why he couldn’t put together another 1,000-yard season in Green Bay.
According to Over The Cap, Cooks has a cap hit of $16.21 million in 2022. A contract extension could help lower that.
