According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Green Bay Packers and cornerback Rasul Douglas have agreed to terms on a three-year, $21 million deal, keeping him in Green Bay for the foreseeable future.

The deal had actually been in the works for quite some time but was going to become official once the Davante Adams trade went through, per ESPN’s Dianna Russini.

The Packers signed Douglas from the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad in October of last year. He ended up rising through the ranks during Green Bay’s week eight contest against his former team, snagging the game-winning interception in the end zone and effectively ending the game. He would continue to impress throughout the season as he would become a fixture on defense.

The game in which his star power really became felt was in Week 12 against the Los Angeles Rams. Douglas would end up grabbing a pick-six off of Matthew Stafford, bringing the Packers’ lead to 37-17 late in the third quarter.

The week after saw him once again force a pick-six, this time against Chicago’s Justin Fields. All told, Douglas had a total of nine starts, forced five interceptions (two of which were returned for touchdowns), 52 solo tackles, and 13 forced fumbles.

The Packers now have their star linebacker from free agency locked up in De’Vondre Campbell and now they have their star cornerback in Rasul Douglas. Both have been indispensable for Green Bay.

Things are looking pretty good heading into the latter part of the offseason. Even after losing their top wide receiver, the Super Bowl window is still open. Both of these signings were probably not going to happen with Adams still on the roster but thanks to his trade to Las Vegas, both of the deals got done and Adams ended up with his massive payday in Vegas along with getting to play with his former college teammate and friend Derek Carr.

I’d say it’s a win-win for both sides in the end. The NFL is a business after all.
