News broke Tuesday afternoon that the Green Bay Packers would be signing veteran defensive tackle Jarran Reed to a one-year deal. This signing may become one of the more important off-season additions Green Bay has made this year.

Jarran Reed is a bonafide starter on the defensive line, playing in all 17 games last year for the Kansas City Chiefs. Reed racked up 43 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hits, and he did not stop there. In the post-season, Reed added to his impressive totals with 13 combined tackles, one sack, and a single QB hit.

If Reed comes to Green Bay playing as solidly as he did for the Chiefs this past season, the Packers may have just solved their problem alongside Kenny Clark in the middle of their defensive line.

The former second-round pick out of Alabama has had a very solid career thus far in the NFL. Since 2016, Reed has posted 237 combined tackles, 70 QB hits, and 24.5 sacks. These stats may not seem like an elite pass rusher, but comparing him to Kenny Clark’s, stats Jarran Reed has two more sacks with 25 more QB hits.

Reed may be able to revive his career with the Packers and his new teammates seem to be excited to play with him.

Alongside Packer fans, Kenny Clark took to Twitter after the news broke that his team had signed help along the D-line by tweeting a smiley face which was followed up by Clark saying, “Shout out Gute & nem DL gone be crazy”. Looks as if Mr. Clark is ready to get back on the field this season.

After this acquisition, the Green Bay Packers’ defensive line is pretty formidable; Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Jarran Reed and Preston Smith makes for a pretty scary front. Not to mention rotational guys like T.J Slaton.
