Why Packers should trade for wide receiver DeVante Parker

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers needs more options to throw to. That much was clear after the greatest receiver he has ever played with in Davante Adams was traded to Las Vegas, deep threat Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and four-year veteran Equanimeous St. Brown signed with the Chicago Bears.

But with four top-60 picks in April’s NFL Draft and just over $15 million in cap space, Green Bay has an opportunity to get their unanimous, first-ballot Hall-of-Fame QB some help. There is a receiver down in Miami that could improve things in Green Bay.

With the recent blockbuster signing of WR Tyreek Hill by the Dolphins, DeVante Parker could be a prime trade candidate. It could be a risky proposition for the Packers considering Parker’s inconsistent play and injury history over his career.

He has only played one full season in his career and has only had one season with more than four touchdown receptions. But that inconsistency could very well be a product of Miami’s inconsistency on offense as a whole in the former Louisville Cardinal’s time there.

When healthy and given the opportunity, Parker is an absolute baller. In his best career season and lone full season he played, he had 72 receptions for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns.

Keep in mind, he has played for five different head coaches, eight different offensive coordinators, and he has had to catch passes from eight different quarterbacks. It’s safe to say that No. 11 has not had the best situation in Miami.

It is much different in Green Bay. The franchise is one of the best and most well-run organizations in sports. Aaron Rodgers has built a 17-year Hall-of-Fame career while throwing to a lot of talented receivers.

Parker, who is still just 29, could be another talented receiver that gets to catch passes from No. 12. At 6-foot-3, 210 lbs, the Kentucky native has great size and his 4.4 speed is dangerous.

The Packers could send the Dolphins a fourth-round pick or whatever the Dolphins’ asking price is, as long as it is reasonable. Parker would give head coach Matt LaFleur and Rodgers a receiver that can win one-on-one while lining up anywhere on the field.

The seven-year veteran has only played in one playoff game in his career. Let’s just say that he would play in a lot more if Green Bay could swing a trade for him.
